State Police Detail Arrest Of Man Suspected In I-74 Incidents

Bond for a Wisconsin man arrested in connection with multiple vehicle window breaks on Interstate 74 is set at $2 million dollars. Illinois State Police spoke about their investigation and the charges against Kevin L. Casey during a press conference Monday.

Casey is a 53-year-old truck driver from Janesville, Wisconsin. He’s a suspect in 45 incidents involving criminal damage to vehicles on I-74 across Champaign and Vermillion among other counties. He’s being charged in connection with four of those incidents.

Illinois State Police Captain Jason Henderson said the investigation into the incidents began in late March. Since then, he says Illinois State Police identified a pattern of behavior in the attacks on vehicles that led to the arrest of Casey.

Folks, this investigation was truly like finding a needle in a haystack.

He said investigators believe Casey used a slingshot to break the windows of passing cars while driving a truck on I-74. Henderson said they also believe Casey would target vehicles on westbound I-74 on Wednesdays and eastbound on Fridays.

As you all know we take these acts very seriously, as they represent a clear and present danger to the public and have the capacity to create serious injuries, crashes, and or kill the innocent motoring public.

Casey is charged with aggravated battery to a child and aggravated battery on a public way, in addition to criminal damage to property
